TANK MAINTENANCE; GOTTA’ DO IT!
1. WATER CHANGE: RECOMMEND 10-20% WEEKLY
2. CLEAN FILTER: USING TANK WATER
3. AVOID OVER FEEDING: REDUCES FISH WAIST
ALL 3 HELP MINIMIZE AMMONIA LEVELS TO KEEP HEALTHY AQUATIC LIFE
FILTRATION
There are three common types of filters. Sumps wil be a seperate section.
SPONGE FILTER
A versatile filter, it can:
Filters the water
Cheap
Be easily mobile
Collect beneficial bacteria to convert ammonia into nitrates.
Agitate the surface using air bubbles to create oxygen exchange in the water
used mainly for small to medium sized aquariums
HANG ON THE BACKÂ FILTER
You can adjust the water flow to control the current.
They can have chemical, biological, mechanical filter media.
Easy to clean
Relatively inexpensive
can be used mostly on all size aquariums
CANISTER FILTER
These types of filters remove the water from the tank and clean it in a canister with chemical, biological, mechanical filter media. It uses an intake hose to the canister and an outlet hose back to the tank as the return.
They are exceptionally good at keeping the water crystal clear if maintained.
Incredibly quiet
The cost is higher compared to sponge and hang on the back filters.
Do not require weekly maintenance
They are used mainly for medium to large size aquariums.
